STANCE at GridLife Round 3

GRIDLIFE Track Battle took place this past weekend over a two day event, AUTOMASS, at AutoBahn Country Club. In Track Battle, we had a plethora of drivers competing in almost every class. Lap records were broken, season standings changed, and awards were given. Here are a few of the drivers that participated in the event;

Andy Smedegard runs XR3 suspension on his GRIDLIFE/RS Motors/365 Racing Evo IX, and set three lap records this weekend for his class (Unlimited AWD)!


Devin Giles is running Track Mod RWD class in his AP1 S2000, and is on XR3 3-way adjustable suspension.

[vc_row][vc_column width=”1/1″][vc_single_image border_color=”grey” img_link_target=”_blank” image=”7328″ img_size=”full” alignment=”center” img_link_large=”yes”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/3″][vc_single_image border_color=”grey” img_link_target=”_blank” image=”7330″ alignment=”center” img_link_large=”yes” img_size=”large”][vc_column_text]Alec qualified 9th and matched up against Kyle Mohan in the top 32. Alec put down consistent lead and chase runs and took the win setting up runback tandem battle with Chris Forsberg for the top 16.  Chris took out Alec in a close battle at New Jersey.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/3″][vc_single_image border_color=”grey” img_link_target=”_blank” image=”7331″ img_size=”large” img_link_large=”yes”][vc_column_text]Alec was able to put a decent gap on the lead and followed Chris closely on the chase for the victory![/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/3″][vc_single_image border_color=”grey” img_link_target=”_blank” image=”7335″ img_size=”large” img_link_large=”yes”][vc_column_text]Forrest known for his exciting qualifying runs, got 6th and got Madmike for the top 32 battle.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/3″][vc_single_image border_color=”grey” img_link_target=”_blank” image=”7336″ img_size=”large” img_link_large=”yes”][vc_column_text]It was another epic fierce battle from the 2 of the most exciting drivers in FD!  They went to battle 3 times as the judges called for 2 one more time!  Eventually Forrest made a mistake and Madmike moved into the top 16 battle.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/3″][vc_single_image border_color=”grey” img_link_target=”_blank” image=”7337″ img_size=”large” img_link_large=”yes”][vc_column_text]Alec’s top 8 battle was against Team Achilles Daigo Saito.  Daigo’s GTR was beaten up from the previous battle but showed no signs of slowing down.  He made a mistake on the lead run and gave the win to Alec[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/3″][vc_single_image border_color=”grey” img_link_target=”_blank” image=”7338″ img_size=”large” img_link_large=”yes”][vc_column_text]Top 4 battle was against Team Roush’s JTP.  Another round with thunderstorms in the forecast.  The rain made the track unpredictable and tested the driver’s courage and reactions.  Alec’s comfort in rain showed, as he took out JTP in the battle for the final![/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/1″][vc_gallery type=”image_grid” interval=”3″ images=”7339,7340,7341,7342,7343,7344,7345,7346″ onclick=”link_image” custom_links_target=”_self” img_size=”medium”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/3″][vc_single_image image=”7346″ border_color=”grey” img_link_large=”yes” img_link_target=”_blank” img_size=”large”][vc_column_text]Finals – Aasbo vs Hohnadell  The rain by this time was coming down hard and the whole track was pretty much wet.  Both drivers showed amazing car control but at the end Aasbo showed better lines and speed.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/3″][vc_single_image image=”7347″ border_color=”grey” img_link_large=”yes” img_link_target=”_blank” img_size=”large”][vc_column_text]It was a bitter sweet ending as we wanted to see the final battle in the dry but it was an amazing weekend to finish on the podium!

[vc_row][vc_column width=”1/1″][vc_single_image border_color=”grey” img_link_target=”_blank” image=”6958″ img_size=”full” alignment=”center” img_link_large=”yes”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/3″][vc_single_image border_color=”grey” img_link_target=”_blank” image=”6959″ alignment=”center” img_link_large=”yes” img_size=”large”][vc_column_text]New Jersey’s Wall Speedway is probably one of the most feared tracks of FD tour.  We have witnessed many pristine cars make mistakes on the bank and crash badly.  To make it more interesting, the track was recently re-paved making the surface extremely slippery.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/3″][vc_single_image border_color=”grey” img_link_target=”_blank” image=”6970″ img_size=”large” img_link_large=”yes”][vc_column_text]The decreasing radius bank entry means you have to find a balance of speed and angle and avoid the “wall”.  As Alec practiced, he was slowly gaining confidence, he knows all to well from previous year’s crash that one mistake can end the day.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/3″][vc_single_image border_color=”grey” img_link_target=”_blank” image=”6971″ img_size=”large” img_link_large=”yes”][vc_column_text]With 3 rounds under our belt, we were getting the new S15 chassis dialed in more with each event.  Even though the S15 chassis is very similar to the previous year’s S14, the weight balance and overall dynamics of the chassis has changed significantly.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/3″][vc_single_image border_color=”grey” img_link_target=”_blank” image=”6972″ img_size=”large” img_link_large=”yes”][vc_column_text]There was some confusion to understanding what the judges wanted to see in the qualifying runs, as the spotters from different teams seemed to have mixed feelings on the qualifying scores.  Regardless, Forrest and Alec were able to qualify 13th and 27th.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/3″][vc_single_image border_color=”grey” img_link_target=”_blank” image=”6974″ img_size=”large” img_link_large=”yes”][vc_column_text]Forrest’s first opponent was Dai Yoshihara.  2 contrasting styles, Forrest’s big angle and speed gave an edge to the tandem runs.  Forrest was able to beat Dai in a close fierce battle.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/3″][vc_single_image border_color=”grey” img_link_target=”_blank” image=”6978″ img_size=”large” img_link_large=”yes”][vc_column_text]Alec’s first battle against Chris Forsberg was very close to call.  Proximity was better with Chris but overall aggressiveness and style was in favor of Alec.  But the judges voted unanimously for Chris.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/1″][vc_gallery type=”image_grid” interval=”3″ images=”6988,6989,6990,6991,6992,6993,6994,6995″ onclick=”link_image” custom_links_target=”_self” img_size=”medium”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/3″][vc_single_image image=”6996″ border_color=”grey” img_link_large=”yes” img_link_target=”_blank” img_size=”large”][vc_column_text]Top 16 battle – Forrest Wang vs Pat Goodin.  S15 vs S13.  2JZ vs V8.  Who’s to win?  Good tight follow by Forrest on the first run , advantage to Forrest.  On the lead, Pat lost control off of the bank and spun giving the win to Forrest.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/3″][vc_single_image image=”6997″ border_color=”grey” img_link_large=”yes” img_link_target=”_blank” img_size=”large”][vc_column_text]Top 8 battle was against Dean Kearny in the Viper.  The course was slick from the rain and once again made for an unpredictable conditions.  Forrest was able to put a solid lead run but Dean’s correction made Forrest get off of his line and made contact with Dean.  Judges ruled the contact against Forrest and Dean moved on to the top 4.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/3″][vc_single_image image=”6998″ border_color=”grey” img_link_large=”yes” img_link_target=”_blank” img_size=”large”][vc_column_text]We would like to congratulate Forrest Wang for making into the Top 8!  See you guys at Rd.5![/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/1″][vc_gallery type=”flexslider_fade” interval=”3″ onclick=”link_image” custom_links_target=”_blank” images=”6999,7000,7001,7002,7003,7004,7005,7006,7007,7008,7009,7010,7011,7012,7013,7014,7015,7016,7017,7018,7019,7020,7021,7022,7023,7024,7025″ img_size=”full”][/vc_column][/vc_row]

Formula D Round.3 Orlando Speedway
